TRASH HEROES – Finland tours
Project Description
TRASH HEROES is a participatory cultural concept that promotes a sustainable and ecological lifestyle and brings dance to people all over Finland. In the 2020–2022 project, three summer tours will be arranged throughout the country. Dance will take place in various events and locations, and local dancers will take place in the activities.
TRASH HEROES has been initiated by dance artists Antti Lahti and Panu Varstala. Lahti and Varstala have developed the TRASH HEROES project from 2015, and they have travelled on their custom-made bicycles in cities and town, neighbourhoods and events. They cruise the city with their bicycles, clean up areas one by one, to make them better for dancing – and then they dance. Trash Heroes create a better city that is more fun for everyone.
During 2020–2022, three national TRASH HEROES tours will take place. Local artists will join, and local communities through Finland will have the chance to enjoy art and dance.
TRASH HEROES is co-organised by Tanssin talo, Pyöräliitto, Tanssiteatteri Minimi, Arts Management Helsinki and the network of regional dance centers: Läntinen tanssin aluekeskus, Pirkanmaan Tanssin Keskus, Keski-Suomen tanssin keskus, Pohjanmaan tanssin aluekeskus, Itä-Suomen tanssin aluekeskus, Jojo – Oulu Dance Center and Zodiak – Center for New Dance / Regional Center of Helsinki.
The project is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
