Project Description
Break the Fight! is a national touring and modeling project by Arja Tiili Dance Companyn / Intomieliset ry, where breakdance and hip hop is used to promote non-violence in schools. In the project, students take part in breakdance workshops, try out new forms of self-expression, and discuss bullying in schools. The project also includes a tour of the stage performance Break the Fight – I was here!, combining breakdance, contemporary dance, rap, and video animation.
In 2017-2018 Break the Fight! -activities are modeled in pilot communities. The idea is to grow roots and create bridges between education policies, schools, youth services, municipal decision makers, and local street artists. The project includes a study led by docent Sofia Laine from the Finnish Youth Research Network.
Break the Fight! project is led by choreographer Arja Tiili. Arts Management Helsinki is an outsourced coordinator and financial administrator for the project.
