In 2015-2016, Arts Management Helsinki developed and tried out a new form of action, centering around the thinking, knowledge, and knowhow of artists. Artist Think Tank was a project and forum, based on the increased understanding of artists as active change makers in society, and the expansion of the roles of artists.
Artist Think Tank included free artists, who work extensively in the field of the arts. They took part in the think tank as part of their artistic practice. During the project, the focus was on the analysis of artistic thinking, on the creation of shared knowledge, and on the testing of various working methods.
The societal task of the artists is to create, to question, to provoke, and to provide views into the unknown, thus changing the world – to use their skills and knowledge, and to create value for humanity. The aim of the Artist Think Tank was to give a new platform for this work.
The core group of the Artist Think Tank included artists Simo Kellokumpu, Heli Meklin, Vera Nevanlinna, Joakim Pusenius and Virva Talonen. In addition to the core group, think tank methods were also used and tested in other formats.
