Samira Elagoz: 10 Years of Challenging Norms

NEWS / 18.3.2026

Samira Elagoz is a Finnish/Egyptian transmasculine artist whose work moves between film, performance, and visual art. Elagoz is known to push the boundaries of performance and video art . He has developed a distinctive practice of “docu-fiction,” exploring topics such as gender roles, digital romanticism, and intimate encounters. Elagoz’s works demand attention—not just for their provocative content, but for their unwavering commitment to truth-telling. Whether through live performance, video, or collaboration, they force us to confront the uncomfortable and reimagine what art can do. Elagoz has always resisted easy categorization.

Elagoz’s breakthrough work, Cock, cock… Who’s There?, first premiered in 2016. Using documentary footage, live action, and unscripted interactions to explore themes of power, sexualization, and the politics of the gaze, CCWT is a monumental and hardcore work. It just celebrated its 10-year anniversary with four sold-out performances at Theatre Odeon in Paris. Congratulations!

Now screening until March 22 at Theatre Odeon is Elagoz’s award-winning video work SEEK BROMANCE. Filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, SEEK BROMANCE chronicles the odyssey of Samira Elagoz and Cade Moga and their shared attempt to defy gender norms. It all begins with their encounter: the two artists come together to collaborate, united by their common desire for transition. Then the pandemic strikes. SEEK BROMANCE won the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale 2022  for its innovative blend of performance, documentary, and digital culture.

Meanwhile, at Les Printemps de Sévelin at Arsenic, Lausanne, Elagoz’s newest work You can’t get what you want but you can get me can be seen until March 22. Created together with Z Walsh, Brooklyn based transgender artist focusing on photography, this unique slideshow documents two long-haired trans men falling madly in love. It captures an almost teenageesque love story, evoking the visceral memory of how it feels to fall in love. The work also showcases the intensity of trans relationships.

From Cock, cock… Who’s There? to SEEK BROMANCE and now “You Can’t Get What You Want”, Elagoz’s career is defined by his willingness to take risks—both artistically and personally.
