Wilma-Emilia Kuosa

Dancer-choreographer, Actor, Poet

Where is the place for what cannot be said
Which throbs there where words can’t reach
When it’s hard to look and the steps don’t dare
but you can’t help but stare
we need more space
for the tenderness
dismantle the web of shame
with gentleness

Wilma-Emilia Kuosa’s works love broken souls whole. Wilma-Emilia is a freelance choreographer, singing dancer, actress, dance teacher and poet from Helsinki. She has studied to become a specialist in jazz dance in France, achieving both the qualifications of a dancer and a dance teacher, majoring in jazz dance. In the spring of 2022, Wilma-Emilia graduated from the Department of Dance at the University of Nice with a Bachelor of Performing Arts, majoring in dance.

Kuosa’s first poetry novel, The Anatomy of a Titanium Heart, was published in 2020 by Basam Books. Its sequel, Cage Opera, was published in autumn 2022 at the same time as the performance piece based on the book of the same name in KokoTeatteri’s autumn 2022 program. The Cage Opera, a poetry novel and a stage performance are currently in Kuosa’s tour program.

Wilma-Emilia is interested in cross-art collaboration, both as a choreographer and performer. The breaking down of boundaries between different subjects and art fields especially excites Wilma-Emilia. During the last years, she has worked extensively in various projects internationally, varying in roles between choreographer, dancer, singer, actress, poet and dance teacher. Wilma-Emilia is fully trilingual (Finnish, French and English).
