Virva Talonen

Virva Talonen is choreographer, dancer and writer based in Finland. Her artistic work focuses on obscure moments and things which reveal themselves once becoming absent. With the corporeal movement, writing and act of touch as the basic elements for choreographing, she delves into the core of humanity; the contradiction between the fragility and strength of human self. In her contemporary dance works she has addressed themes such age, incompleteness, kinship, fear and empathy and home. Her latest choreographic work is IHONA (2021) which dealt with the concept of skin.

Her dance works have been premiered in Zodiak – Center for New Dance, Barker Theatre, Kiasma and Routa Company among other venues and festivals in Finland. Her works have been experienced also in Japan, Palestine and Scotland. Virva Talonen works in Finnish dance magazine Liikekieli.com. The Arts Promotion Centre Finland has admitted her artist grant for 2020-2023.
