Project Description
Nordic Spirit is an exhibition on Nordic design that took place at Gwanju Museum of Art in 2015. Gwangju, ’the city of light’ is a metropolis in South Korea, one of the countries six largest cities. Nordic Spirit was part of Gwangju Design Biennale in 1.9.–30.11.2015.
The invited curator of Nordic Spirit is Amie Ann. She has been an important influencer in the cultural dialogue between Korea and Finland. Amie Ann has curated exhibitions and events in Korea and Finland, including the extensive Korean Home exhibition in Helsinki in 2007, Korean Design exhibition at the Design Museum in Helsinki in 2011 and Nordic Passion exhibition at Seoul Art Museum in 2013. Amie Ann has also written the famous book Design Finland in My Perspective (published in Korean 2009, in Chinese 2010). Amie Ann’s most recent book Why Nordic Design? is also about Scandinavian design.
Nordic Spirit exhibition took place at the Gwangju Art Museum first and second floors. In addition, there were workshops and performances in other venues. Nordic Spirit combined different elements and experiences.
The Finnish content of Nordic Spirit exhibition was coordinated and produced by Outi Järvinen / Arts Management Helsinki, together with curator Amie Ann.
