Globally unique concept combining mobility, renewable energy, and civic activism has landed in the city of Jyväskylä, Finland, this autumn. Ilona is the name of the solar panel bike that is now available for anyone in the city. There will be an online library of event concepts – including block parties, art events, and other civic activity – that are freely for use with the bike.

The initiative came from artist duo Panu Varstala and Antti Lahti, who have toured around Finland with their Trash Heroes initiative for a better city. Panu Varstala has been interested in developing and spreading this initiative beyond the artist duo. Now the first Trash Heroes solar bike has found a new home in Jyväskylä, where it will bring joy to all citizens.
